But I didn’t by the book for the recipes. (On the cover it excitingly said, Recipes Included! which, for some reason, I assumed meant a lot more than two). At first I was a bit disappointed as I was expecting more recipes. Dun dun dun–who will she choose?Īs an added bonus to the book, two recipes are included in the back. One is a reporter who is sexy, the other, a fireman who is handsome and kind. I hope Katie’s two potential love interests make a reappearance as well. I am assuming that the next Magical Bakery Mystery will continue on with Katie Lightfoot. Cates writes in such a way that I can picture everything quite clearly in my head. You go girl! Another aspect that I absolutely loved was all the details in the book. Katie didn’t let any men hold her back from what she thought needed to be done, even when this men thought it was a bad idea. One thing that I absolutely LOVED about this book was the strong female leadership throughout. Instead of packing up and heading back to the safety of Ohio, Katie embraces every aspect of her new life and handles everything quite well. Add to that that the bakery is opening in a few days, and there are two handsome men who seem attracted to her (and she is attracted right back!) but can’t bear to be in each others’ presence even for a minute and Katie’s new life is a tad more complicated than she had anticipated. If that isn’t enough to deal with, through a turn of events, her uncle is now a primary murder suspect. Right from the start, two things that I love: baking and the south! Katie begins to settle into her new life only to discover that her aunt is a witch, and Katie herself might be one too. Her first book is about Katie Lightfoot who packs up her life in Ohio to manage a new bakery that her aunt and uncle are opening in Georgia. “Brownies and Broomsticks” is Cates’ writing debut. Surprisingly, it took me a week or two, but I finally have a new review for everyone! I decided to try something a bit different and picked up the first book in the start of a new series, Magical Bakery Mysteries, called “Brownies and Broomsticks” by Bailey Cates.
